Moving from British Columbia to Alberta
Moving to a new province can be an intimidating process. You have to think about the logistics of your move, whether you’re moving across town or across the country. There are lots of things to consider: packing up all your belongings, finding a place to stay while you get settled in, getting your kids into new schools and making sure they feel safe and secure in their new surroundings. But once you’ve done all that—and it will take some time—you’ll be able to start enjoying all of the benefits of living in Alberta!
Here are some of the things you can expect once you arrive…
1) The weather is different.
In British Columbia, it’s usually mild and wet. In Alberta, it can be cold, dry, windy and hot during the summer months. So if you’re moving from BC to AB during the winter months… be prepared! You may have some trouble adjusting to the colder temperatures. If you’re moving during the summer months, though (or even spring), then it won’t be too much of a change—just make sure you pack plenty of sunscreen as Calgary is one of the sunniest places in Canada!
2) The landscape is different.
As anyone who’s driven through Canada will tell you, the landscape in BC is very diverse. There are mountains, forests, grasslands, and coastlines. However, Alberta has its own unique beauty to offer as well. It’s just a different kind of beauty… For example, the Rocky Mountains look much different from the Coast Mountains of BC. And instead of beaches and the ocean, you’ll have rivers and lakes instead. So while you might not be able to see the same landscapes here, part of the adventure is being able to explore all the new beautiful places Alberta has to offer!
3) The cost of living is different.
Many people decide to leave BC because of the high cost of living. As you probably know, housing can be pretty expensive in British Columbia. But many people find that they can save money by moving to an Alberta city like Edmonton or Calgary. In both of these cities, you can find lots of reasonably priced homes that are great places to raise a family. Just make sure you connect with a great realtor before you buy a house in Alberta so you don’t end up overpaying for your new home!
4) There are plenty of job opportunities in Alberta.
If you’re looking to start a career, you’ll find lots of great opportunities here. There are lots of big companies and lots of small ones too. And if you’re looking for a job in your field, Alberta is a great place to be. There are also plenty of opportunities for entrepreneurs here too. So whether you want to be working for someone else or for yourself, you can find plenty of opportunities here!
5) The food is different here.
Be prepared for some new things to try when it comes to food! There are some regional differences even between different areas of the same province. You’ll find lots of different flavors and many different kinds of cuisine to enjoy here. You’ll also find that the prices aren’t as high as in BC either. So you can eat out more often if you want to and save more money for other things!
